How a Larson forge and finish, knife is
made
We have been selling our custom knives on Ebay for about 10 months now and we
have gotten quite a few questions about how, where, by who, and why?, these
knives are being made.
Here are a series of pix showing the steps taken to make one of these knives
Ok, he's already bought the steel, more on that later.
Using Elmers glue and printing paper, he sets up the layout
to maximize usage of the steel
The patterns are cut out of the flat stock with a
Hacksaw. He says "only a bi-metal will do"
This is a tedious part of the process
He trims up the cutouts with an angle grinder with some
sort of cone wheel on it. I believe the railroad uses it to
grind track. It works good and lasts a long time
So there it is all cut out and ready for the fire
Here is the forge. Made out of an old hot water tank and a few
parts from a stainless steel beer keg. He uses an old hoover
vacuum for the blower
We use regular charcoal briquets as that's pretty much all thats
avaliable. You can get welding heat with briquets.
